A Travellerspoint blog

Needed more time

sunny 24 °C

Berlin has a lot to offer, and could have easily spent a month there.
What we learned was that Berlin used to be a swamp and they have to keep pumping water out of there to prevent it becoming one again. It has a lot of canals in it which I didn't know, and a huge train network (both underground and above) which cris cross all over the place so you can get around (although some stations are confusing particularly when switching between the underground and above ground trains).
We got to see Brandenburg Gate, Victory tower, checkpoint Charlie, what is left of the wall and the Olympic stadium and got to catch up with some friends along the way as well.
There are so many museums but we ran out of time to get to them. It's a lovely city where you feel really safe (the amnesty intl people are super friendly too - just like at home)
